It was a short, 2 night trip, but Seah had it jam packed and planned perfectly to make sure we saw as much of the city as possible. We arrived Thursday morning and walked through a beautiful park, past Parliament, under the Arc de Triomf, passed by her school buildings, and ended at Sagrada Familia, a huge church that has been in the process of construction for over 200 years and won't be done until 2026 - a truly amazing sight. My favorite part of the day however, was walking down to the beach at night and seeing the palm trees lit up by the lights and the sparkling sea water. It was so peaceful and so different from what I'm used to in London and I loved it. We ate dinner at 9pm, still early by Spain standards, at a delicious crepery where we had savory and sweet crepes.
After Seah's final on Friday morning, we went to her grocery store and bought food for a picnic at Park Guell. The hike up the hill wasn't too fun, but the park was worth it. There were moziacs everywhere, by Gaudi, and a beautiful view of Barcelona. We sat on a bench and had cheese and crackers, muffins, 10 pounds of strawberrys, and sangria while the sun tanned us pasty Londoners - we were happy to see sunshine in Greece, but this sun was a lot warmer and actually gave us some color :) After Park Guell, we walked along the beach, through the Gothic quarters, down Las Ramblas, and had traditional tapas for dinner. We ended at a fountain light show which was one of my favorite things I've done since I've been in Europe - music was playing, the weather was great, and sitting on the steps with my friends made it feel like the 4th of July. After the show, we went back to Seah's dorm and I prepared for a crazy night out in Spain: nap, shower, pre-game with her friends, and then out to a discoteca! It was insane and I don't get how Seah's been doing it all semester. From the smoke to the blinding strobe lights and packed dance floor, it was definitely an experience. I was exhausted from the past 2 days and by 3:30am I was ready to go home, which is actually an early night for them.
After sleeping in until 11 on Saturday, Seah cooked us a lunch of Kraft mac 'n cheese and frozen pizza (home foods we've reallllly missed here in London) which we followed up by laying out next to the pool on her rooftop deck (and I thought I was spoiled by living in Kensington....). We finished up our time in Barcelona with some shopping (of course) and then sadly said goodbye to Seah and got on our last plane back to London.
I was sentimental leaving Barcelona for a number of reasons:
1. I absolutely loved the city and had an amazing time there.
2. It was great to see Seah's familiar face again and get a touch of Madison.
3. It was the last of my crazy weekend adventures which means my time in Europe is really coming to an end.
Barcelona was the perfect trip to end the semester with.
