I just got into London a few days ago. The flight was pretty smooth but, sadly, on United Airlines, wine is no longer free. My tylenol PM did nothing to knock me out, so I barely got any sleep and am struggling with jet-lag.
London and I have experienced love at first sight. The flight was long and I started getting a knot in the pit of my stomach as we landed, but it went away as soon as the cab entered my neighborhood and I heard my first true British accent. I've explored my neighborhood and it's gorgeous - there's a reason why it's the most affluent borough in London. My flat is 10 times better than I expected. I'm in a triple with our own bathroom, which I was a little hesitant about at first, but I'm rooming with two girls I've been talking to since orientation. Plus, the three other girls I've been hanging out with are all in the room next to us, so the living situation worked out perfectly. I know I'll be in the room as little as possible because I'll be taking full advantage of living in this beautiful city. Main plus about the flat though: GREAT wireless internet so you better all keep your skype on!!
These first couple of days have felt a little like the first week of freshman year. I'm living in a suite-style dorm, we're being herded to meetings, and they're keeping us busy so we don't get homesick. We had a welcome reception the first night (they served alcohol - my first LEGAL drink!! :D) and there are a lot of cool people in my program, 50 of us total. We had a walking tour yesterday and a bus tour this morning. It's been a whirlwind of sights, but I'm anxious to explore myself and get acclimated with the city.
I'll try and do semi-frequent updates, but I'm sure I'll be busy once classes and traveling begin!
